Description

  1. The Commune's Living Museum
It was created from some forty postcards and photographs dating from the 1920s to the 1970s, generously loaned by our residents. Testimonials from our elders and consultation of the archives at the town hall have enabled us to comment on each illustration. We invite you to discover the history of our village as you stroll through the streets of the village, looking for the illustrated and commented panels.
  2. Saint-Martin church
In 2009, the restoration of the Saint-Martin church led to the rediscovery of an exceptional collection of medieval frescoes. Dating for the most part from the 12th century, and reworked in the 13th and 14th centuries, these frescoes offer visitors a glimpse of a small Saint-Savin. Come and discover this unique heritage listed as a Monument Historique. The church is open from 9am to 6pm - permanent audio tour.
  3. The hotel des voyageurs
The tower hides a staircase and is part of a building that is none other than the former Hôtel des Voyageurs, parts of which date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The buildings adjoining it as far as rue du Vivier were used as stagecoach stops, where horses were loaded.
  4. Maison de la Bonde
This 19th-century dwelling on the banks of the Boire Masson - yet more than 2 km from the Loire - was destroyed during the flood of June 1856, as indicated by an inscription in the medallion surmounted by an anchor with a rope.
  5. La Boire Masson
The Boire Masson is a diverticulum of the Vieux-Cher which collects water from the Lignières-de-Touraine hillside.
  6. Meadows
The natural grasslands of the Indre are part of the Parc Naturel Régional.
  7. The plateau
Vines (AOC Azay-Le-Rideau) and orchards, mainly apple trees, are grown here.
  8. Château de Fontenay
Built on the still visible remains of a Gallo-Roman square villa, this medieval manor house has preserved its crenellated walls, sentry walk, watchtowers, latrines and dry moat. "Il n'est trésor que de vivre à son aise" (It's only a treasure to live at one's ease) can be read above the door to the guard room, for Fontenay is a château on a human scale.
