Presentation

Azay-le-Rideau, home of châteaux

Bordered by the Loire River and crossed by the bucolic Indre Valley, this rolling countryside brings out a romanticism enjoyed by illustrious writers and artists. In Saché, we follow in the footsteps of Balzac and Calder. At the Château Islette, we celebrate the love of Rodin and Camille Claudel.

The château of Azay-le-Rideau, a Renaissance masterpiece
Crowning achievement of 16th century architecture, the château of Azay-le-Rideau was built on an island designed by the Indre River. Interspersed with mills, as in Pont-de-Ruan, the tributary of the Loire River also crosses the sumptuous park of the Islette château, an elegant replica of the château of Azay-le-Rideau, which is still inhabited.

Fascinating cave dwellings
The Valley of the Goupillières reveals the life of an underground farm and shelter. In Villaines-les-Rochers, a village with plenty of underground cavities, many basketry workshops use locally grown wicker. A large number of craftsmen benefit from the "Valeurs Parc" brand (Park Values), which rewards their commitment to the environment, to a more inclusive local economy and the well-being of all.

Saché, the inspirational ground of the « Lys in the Valley »
The manor house of Saché, now the Balzac Museum, was one of the privileged places of inspiration of this writer, native of Tours, who wrote several of his works there.

Sweetness and light of the banks of Loire River
Besides the wines of the Azay-le-Rideau PDO ( Protected Designation of Origin ) you can also taste the “Poire tapée” of Rivarennes, a dried and flattened pear, honoured in a museum. We are just a stone’s throw from the banks of the Loire River, where the authentic village of Bréhémont offers magnificent sunsets over the river.
