Gennes is home to the beautiful natural area of Joreau, with its ponds and forests classified as a "Regional Nature Reserve". This serene setting is ideal for family relaxation, with walks, a picnic area, fishing and a fitness trail.
Before you set off, don't forget to print out the discovery booklet, which is essential for this walk. It's also available for €1 from your nearest Tourist Office.

Departure is from Place de l'Étoile.

  1. From Place de l'Étoile, turn left onto Avenue des Cadets towards Pont de Gennes. Once at the bridge, find the first signpost, then turn left under the bridge, find the second signpost and turn left again before the entrance to the small park. Then head back up into town, taking the small path on the other side of the road.
  2. At the end of this little path, pass the Saint-Eusèbe church and find the third beacon. Go back down to Rue du Mémorial. At the end of this street, turn left into the "montée des caves". At the end of the path, find the fourth marker and turn right into rue des Gâtines.
  3. Walk 300 m to reach the Rue de la République. Turn right for 250 m, then right again into rue de l'Ancienne Mairie. Walk around Square des Marais and take Chemin du Marais, crossing over the Avort stream and continuing straight on along the tennis courts to Avenue de l'Amphithéâtre. Turn left up the avenue, cross the road and find the fifth marker at the Gallo-Roman amphitheatre.
  4. Return to Avenue de l'Amphithéâtre, turn left and continue down a track for approx. 300 m. At the end of the path, find the sixth marker. Turn left onto chemin du Madron, following the watercourse. On this path, find the seventh and eighth markers. At the end of the path, cross the road to the market square and continue straight on for 150 m to reach Rue de la Poste, then turn left to reach Place de l'Etoile.
  5. At the traffic circle, turn right into rue de Saumur, then left into a small park. Continue along the Avort and, at the end of the path, turn left to find the first signpost.
