There's no shortage of things to discover along the way, from the picturesque succession of small private washhouses along the old Lathan to the 19th-century church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Légion-d'Honneur, built thanks to donations from members of the Legion of Honor.
Long fords, Longué... Prosper Foucauld preferred stone to water, which is omnipresent here. Step back in time to 1880 and let yourself be guided by this talented young mason-sculptor, well known in the region.

He's only 36 years old, but he's already achieved a great deal. As you stroll along, you'll learn about the history of the village, which is undergoing a major transformation! Ornate facades, an atypical church... follow in his footsteps and discover the transformations of the Vieux-Bourg and the town, the vestiges of which are still very much present. Description

Longué-Jumelles: 

Before you set off, don't forget to print out the discovery booklet, essential for this walk. It's also available for €1 from your nearest Tourist Office.

Departure is from the Hydronef mill.

  1. Once in front of the Hydronef mill, fork left to reach a grassy area. Here, turn left following the ground markings to cross the grass via a path of cobblestones [VB1] in the grass. Opposite the small steps to the square, turn right up Avenue Maréchal-Foch. Continue straight ahead for approx. 300 m, following the road markings. Turn right and cross the crosswalk. Go back down the avenue.
  2. At the bottom of the avenue, cross the road following the markings to reach point number 2 at the corner of rue de la Libération, next to the pharmacy.
  3. Continue straight ahead until you reach the Place de la Mairie, find point 3 on the path and point 4 when you reach the square. Walk around the square past the town hall, then straight ahead on rue Yvonne Compere. At a traffic circle, turn right, following the road markings. Continue straight on for about 350 m to arrive opposite the church at the crosswalk, cross over and take the stairs to arrive at the foot of the church and find point 5.
  4. Go downhill to the right, then turn left into rue du Docteur Tardif. Refer to the road markings to find point number 6 on this street. Continue straight ahead for approx. 500 m, crossing opposite the hospital to change sidewalk, continue left for 100 m, then turn right into ruelle de la Planche Marteau. Continue straight ahead.
  5. Cross 2 small bridges, then turn right for approx. 500 m along the river. Arrive at a small wooden bridge, mark point 7, take the bridge and continue for 100 m. When you reach the last bridge, turn right to reach a traffic circle, and follow it to the left, passing Notre-Dame de la Légion d'honneur. Continue for 250 m, past the nursery school, then turn left onto the promenade des lavoirs. Continue straight ahead on the path to return to Place de la Mairie. Walk around the square again and retrace your steps to find the Hydronef mill.
