Description

  1. Manoir de l'Alouette
Take the Rue du Bol de Lait down to this 16th-century Henri II manor house. Mentioned by Balzac in Le Curé de Tours, this limestone manor house is flanked by two corbelled turrets.
  2. Lambert, Clauset and Potard mills
After the avenue of plane trees, you arrive at Moulins Lambert. Take a break on the island via the footbridge and enjoy a view of the weir dating from 1852, as well as the Closet and Potard mills on the other side of the bridge. Mentioned around 1370 as a cloth-whipping mill, Moulin Potard, the most central mill on the Indre, is cited in Balzac's famous description of Pont-de-Ruan in his novel Le Lys dans la Vallée.
  3. Sainte-Apolline Oratory
The oratory dates back to 1820. She is the patron saint of dental surgeons.
  4. Méré manor house
Rebuilt in the 18th century, it was once owned by Paul Louis Courier's father.
  5. Carrosse fountain
  6. Chapelle des Ansaults well
A 35m-deep well, there were only two of its kind to supply the entire village with drinking water until 1970.
  7. The Grand Moulin and its recently-covered wash-house
The Grand Moulin was built in 1853. The level of the large "pendante" wheel varied with the height of the Indre. The mill served all the bakeries in the region, and remained in operation until 1988.
  8. Château des Archevêques
A 15th-century château built behind the church, it was once a place of rest and pleasure for the archbishops.
  9. Château de la Mothe
    (15th century)
  10. Saint-Maurice church
The nave retains an 11th-century stone wall. The large central bell tower dates from the 12th century and the choir was added in the 13th century. The façade was restored in the 19th century.
